Challenge

UN17 Village in Ørestad, Copenhagen, is built to the UN's seventeen sustainable development goals, with recovered and reused material specified wherever the building programme allows. That put a hard constraint on the floor: the entrance and communal circulation needed a hard-wearing, easily cleaned surface, but the specification excluded the resin build-ups normally used for that duty, and the finish had to sit on the developer's own material and indoor-air criteria rather than on a supplier's default system.

Approach

Eco Rapid Indu was applied as a seamless mineral floor across the entrance, the shared circulation and the communal ground-floor rooms. The system is liquid-applied and cures into the substrate rather than sitting on it as a plastic film, so it stays vapour-permeable and needs no movement joints across an open floor plate. Because it is mineral, it also carries EMICODE EC1PLUS — the indoor-air classification the project's own material screening asked for — and the fast set allowed the applicators to work the floor room by room while other trades continued around them.

Result

A continuous, jointless grey floor through the shared areas, matching the raw concrete and timber of the building without adding a competing finish. It cleans as one surface, takes trolley and foot traffic from residents and visitors, and can be locally repaired and recoated in place instead of being lifted and replaced.
